In a display of sheer strength and determination, China’s Liu Huanhua secured the gold medal in the men’s 102kg weightlifting category at the Paris Olympics. The world champion delivered a masterful performance, lifting a combined total of 406kg, solidifying his position as a dominant force in the sport.

A Close Contest and Record-Breaking Attempts

The competition was intense, with Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan matching Liu’s impressive 186kg snatch on his third attempt. However, Liu responded with a flawless clean and jerk of 220kg on his first try, securing a comfortable lead.

Fueled by the electrifying atmosphere at the Paris Expo arena, Liu then attempted to surpass his own world record total of 413kg. Despite his valiant effort, he was unable to complete the lift, but his earlier achievements were enough to secure the gold.

Akbar Djuraev of Uzbekistan claimed the silver medal with a total of 404kg, while Belarusian Yauheni Tsikhantsou, competing as a neutral athlete, earned the bronze with a total of 402kg.
