Kanwar Yatra Pilgrims Killed in Road Accident

Tragedy struck the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, as a devastating road accident on National Highway 44 claimed the lives of two pilgrims and left 14 others injured. The incident occurred early on July 29th, when a truck collided with a tractor-trolley that was trailing the Kanwar Yatra procession, providing support to the devotees.

Victims Identified, Investigation Underway

The deceased have been identified as Bharat Lal Sharma, 37, and Ramnaresh Sharma, 26, both residents of the Sihoniya area. Additional Superintendent of Police Anurag Thakur confirmed that the injured pilgrims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care and are reportedly out of danger. Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Anger and Grief in the Aftermath

Following the collision, local villagers, enraged by the tragic loss of life, confronted the truck driver and briefly blocked the highway in protest. To maintain law and order, a significant police presence has been deployed to the scene. The incident has cast a somber pall over the Kanwar Yatra, an annual pilgrimage during which devotees carry water from the Ganges River to offer at Shiva temples.
