In a momentous tribute to the valor and sacrifice of Kargil war heroes, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared a substantial increase in the ex-gratia grant for martyred soldiers hailing from the state. The ex-gratia, a monetary compensation extended to the families of fallen soldiers, has been raised from ₹10 lakh to a significant ₹50 lakh.

Expanding Opportunities for Martyrs’ Families

During the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration at the Shaheed Smarak in Dehradun, Chief Minister Dhami unveiled a series of measures aimed at supporting the families of martyrs. In addition to the enhanced ex-gratia, the window for family members to apply for government jobs has been extended from two to five years. Furthermore, dependents of martyrs will be granted appointments in Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ positions across various government departments, including District Magistrate Offices.

In a move to acknowledge the contributions of contract workers within the Sainik Welfare Department, Chief Minister Dhami announced that they will now be entitled to leave benefits on par with Upanal workers. This decision is expected to boost morale and job satisfaction among the department’s workforce.
