The Nothing Phone 1 makes a bold statement with its transparent design and innovative Glyph Interface. But does its substance match its style? Let’s dive in and find out.

Design & Build:

The Phone 1’s transparent back is an instant attention-grabber, revealing its inner workings like a piece of tech art. The aluminum frame feels solid and premium, and the phone is comfortable to hold, though not the most compact option.

Display:

The 6.55-inch OLED display is simply gorgeous. With a 120Hz refresh rate, scrolling and animations are buttery smooth. Colors pop with vibrancy and accuracy, and HDR content looks incredible. The screen gets plenty bright for outdoor use, even in direct sunlight.

Performance:

Powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ chip and up to 12GB of RAM, the Phone 1 breezes through everyday tasks. Multitasking is a cinch, and demanding games run smoothly, although you might notice some occasional lag on the highest settings.

Camera:

The dual 50MP rear cameras capture impressive photos in good lighting with sharp details and natural colors. Night mode brightens low-light shots but can introduce some noise. The 16MP selfie camera delivers satisfying results.

Battery Life:

The 4500mAh battery typically lasts a full day of moderate use. Heavy users might need to top up in the evening. 33W wired charging is reasonably fast, but there’s no wireless charging option.

Software & User Experience:

Nothing OS, built on Android, is clean and uncluttered, with a focus on simplicity. The star of the show is the Glyph Interface, a network of LED lights on the back that can be customized for notifications, charging status, and even specific callers. It’s a fun and unique way to interact with your phone.

Connectivity & Additional Features:

The Phone 1 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It’s also IP53 rated for splash and dust resistance. However, there’s no expandable storage or headphone jack.

Buying Recommendation:

The Nothing Phone 1 is ideal for those who want a phone that stands out. Its unique design and Glyph Interface are conversation starters. It’s also a good choice for those who value a clean Android experience and decent camera performance.

Pros:

  • Head-turning transparent design
  • Innovative and customizable Glyph Interface
  • Vivid and responsive 120Hz OLED display
  • Good camera performance in daylight
  • Clean and user-friendly software

Cons:

  • No wireless charging
  • Average low-light camera performance
  • No expandable storage
  • No headphone jack

Overall:

The Nothing Phone 1 is a breath of fresh air in the smartphone landscape. While it’s not perfect, its unique style, thoughtful features, and solid performance make it a compelling option for those seeking something different.
