The Moto Edge 50 Pro is a bit of a dark horse in the smartphone race. It’s not the flashiest phone on the block, but it packs a punch in terms of performance and features while keeping the price tag reasonable. After spending a few weeks with it, here’s what I found:

Design & Build:

The Edge 50 Pro feels surprisingly premium for a mid-range phone. It has a sleek glass back (or vegan leather, depending on the model) that curves gently into an aluminum frame. It feels solid and well-built, though the glossy back is a fingerprint magnet. The phone is a bit on the larger side, but it’s still comfortable to hold thanks to the curved edges.

Display:

The 6.7-inch pOLED display is a standout feature. It’s sharp, vibrant, and incredibly smooth thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate. The colors pop, and HDR content looks fantastic. It gets plenty bright for outdoor use, and the curved edges add a touch of elegance.

Performance:

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and 8GB/12GB of RAM, the Edge 50 Pro flies through everyday tasks and even the most demanding games. Apps open quickly, multitasking is a breeze, and I never experienced any slowdowns. It’s a performance powerhouse at a mid-range price.

Camera:

The camera system is where the Edge 50 Pro stumbles a bit. The 50MP main sensor takes decent photos in good lighting, but it struggles in low light and sometimes produces overprocessed images. The ultrawide and telephoto lenses are okay, but not exceptional. The front-facing camera is good enough for selfies and video calls. Overall, the camera experience is usable but not on par with other phones in this price range.

Battery Life:

The 4800mAh battery easily lasts a full day with moderate to heavy use. It also supports incredibly fast 68W wired charging, getting you from 0% to 100% in about 45 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, though.

Software & User Experience:

The Edge 50 Pro runs a near-stock version of Android 12, which is clean and easy to use. Motorola has added a few useful software features, like Moto Actions (gesture shortcuts) and Ready For (desktop mode). The software experience is smooth and intuitive.

Connectivity & Additional Features:

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It’s also water-resistant (IP52), but there’s no headphone jack or expandable storage.

Buying Recommendation:

Who’s it for? The Moto Edge 50 Pro is ideal for users who prioritize performance and value. It’s a great choice for gamers, multitaskers, and anyone who wants a fast and smooth experience without breaking the bank.

Pros:

  • Incredible performance for the price
  • Gorgeous and smooth 144Hz pOLED display
  • Blazing-fast 68W wired charging
  • Clean and intuitive software experience

Cons:

  • Camera performance could be better
  • No wireless charging
  • Glossy back attracts fingerprints

Overall:

The Moto Edge 50 Pro is a fantastic mid-range phone that punches above its weight in terms of performance. It’s not perfect, especially in the camera department, but it offers incredible value for the price. If you can live with the camera’s shortcomings, the Edge 50 Pro is a great choice for anyone who wants a fast, smooth, and affordable smartphone.
