The Moto Edge (2024) aims to offer a premium experience at a more accessible price point. While it succeeds in some areas, it falls short in others. Let’s break it down:

Design & Build:

The Moto Edge immediately impresses with its slim and lightweight design. The vegan leather back feels surprisingly luxurious (and is less smudge-prone than glass), while the aluminum frame adds a touch of durability. However, the curved display, while visually appealing, might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It feels a bit fragile, and accidental touches are a possibility.

Display:

The 6.6-inch pOLED display is a standout feature. It’s bright, vivid, and exceptionally smooth thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate. Colors pop, and the 1300 nits peak brightness makes it usable even in harsh sunlight. HDR10+ support is a nice touch, but the lack of Dolby Vision is a missed opportunity.

Performance:

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, combined with 8GB of RAM, handles everyday tasks with ease. Multitasking is smooth, and most games run without issue. However, it’s not the fastest chip on the market, and heavy gamers might notice some limitations.

Camera:

The 50MP main camera captures decent photos with good detail and dynamic range in well-lit conditions. The ultrawide lens is a nice addition, but image quality suffers compared to the main sensor. Low-light performance is adequate but not stellar. The 32MP selfie camera takes decent photos, but don’t expect miracles in low light.

Battery Life:

The 5000mAh battery easily lasts a full day with typical use. You won’t need to reach for a charger until bedtime. The 68W wired charging is fast, but the 15W wireless charging feels slow compared to competitors.

Software & User Experience:

The Moto Edge runs a nearly stock version of Android 14, which is clean and easy to navigate. Motorola’s additions are mostly useful, like the gesture controls and personalization options. However, the lack of a headphone jack is a bummer for some users.

Connectivity & Additional Features:

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. It’s also IP68 water and dust resistant, a welcome addition for peace of mind. However, the lack of expandable storage might be a dealbreaker for some.

Buying Recommendation:

Who’s it for? The Moto Edge (2024) is best suited for users who value design, a smooth display, and decent battery life. It’s a good choice for everyday use, social media, and light gaming.

Pros:

  • Sleek, lightweight design with premium vegan leather back
  • Bright and smooth 144Hz pOLED display
  • Long-lasting battery with fast charging
  • Clean and intuitive Android 14 experience
  • IP68 water and dust resistance

Cons:

  • Curved display might not be for everyone
  • Middling camera performance, especially in low light
  • No headphone jack or expandable storage
  • Pricing could be more competitive

Overall:

The Moto Edge (2024) is a decent mid-range phone with some premium touches. Its design, display, and battery life are its strong points, but the camera and lack of expandable storage hold it back. If you can find it at a discount, it’s a good option, but at full price, there are other competitors to consider.
