The Moto Edge 40 Pro is Motorola’s ambitious attempt to reclaim its spot in the premium smartphone arena. And in my experience, they’ve mostly succeeded. This phone delivers flagship-level performance, a clean Android experience, and a unique curved display that sets it apart.

Design & Build:

The Moto Edge 40 Pro is a head-turner. Its curved display and vegan leather back (in select colors) give it a premium look and feel. The phone is surprisingly slim and comfortable to hold, despite its large screen. The metal frame adds a touch of durability, and the IP68 water and dust resistance is a welcome bonus.

Display:

The 6.67-inch pOLED display is a stunner. Its 165Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and gaming incredibly smooth, and the colors are vibrant and punchy. The curved edges add a touch of style, but they can occasionally cause accidental touches. Overall, it’s a great display for multimedia consumption and everyday use.

Performance:

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM, ensures blazing-fast performance. The phone handles everything with ease, from demanding games to multitasking. Apps launch quickly, and there’s no lag or stutter to be found. Benchmark scores are impressive, placing it among the top performers in the Android world.

Camera:

The 50MP main camera is a capable shooter, producing sharp and detailed images in most lighting conditions. The ultrawide and telephoto lenses add versatility, allowing you to capture a wide range of scenes. Low-light performance is good, thanks to the large sensor and night mode. Video recording capabilities are also impressive, with up to 8K resolution support.

Battery Life:

The 4600mAh battery is decent, providing a full day of moderate use. However, heavy users might need to top up by evening. The 125W TurboPower charging is incredibly fast, juicing up the phone from 0% to 100% in less than 20 minutes.

Software & User Experience:

Motorola’s approach to software is refreshing. The near-stock Android experience is clean, fast, and bloatware-free. You get the latest Android 13 out of the box, with the promise of timely updates. The software is intuitive and easy to use, with a few useful Motorola gestures and customizations thrown in.

Connectivity & Additional Features:

The Edge 40 Pro covers all the bases with 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. It also features stereo speakers for immersive audio and an under-display fingerprint scanner that’s fast and reliable. The lack of expandable storage might be a downside for some users.

Buying Recommendation:

  • Who’s it for? Android enthusiasts who want a clean software experience, excellent performance, and a unique curved display. Gamers, photographers, and multitaskers will appreciate its capabilities.
  • Pros: Stunning curved display, flagship-level performance, capable camera system, blazing-fast charging, clean Android experience.
  • Cons: Average battery life for heavy users, no expandable storage, curved display can cause accidental touches.
  • Overall: The Moto Edge 40 Pro is a compelling flagship phone that stands out from the crowd with its unique design and clean software. It offers a premium experience at a slightly lower price than some competitors, making it a great value proposition.
